Prayers and Choices: A Motivational Talk for GCF Sta. Rosa’s Women of Worth

Aside from being a professional corporate trainer, I delight in giving motivational talks. Talks that focus on empowering women is my other cup of tea. That is why I said, yes to the invitation of my friend, Ms. Daniel Acyatan to speak at the women’s ministry in their church. Finally, our schedules meet and I came very eager to encourage the members.

On November 24, GCF Sta. Rosa’s Women’s Ministry called Women of Worth held their 5th Christmas party. As the head of the ministry, Daniel shared her desire to continue the group the way God has ordained it. She wanted to remind the members to be women of worth, women worthy of the calling of God.

Since women’s ministry is close to my heart, I was comfortable to share with them my story. At a young age, I have developed a different perspective on being rich and being poor. This brought about unmet desires and later, negative coping mechanisms. As young as 4 years old, I promised myself that I will never be poor. I shared my story here.

Then, I shared stages of my life. I made traumatic choices in high school. When I was in my 20s, I was too ambitious and made choices that were not even prayed for first. In my 30s I was so caught up running 18 successful businesses and being in control of more than 100 employees. Despite the accomplishment I seem to be enjoying, I still made selfish choices. Every wrong choice made was to cover another terrible choice. Until I could no longer get out of it. During that time, I hardly prayed. All I had was my religion and I had no real relationship with God.

When I became a Christian, I lived a dual life. And this became so exhausting that restlessness consumed me. Two years ago, I hit a crossroad in life. This time I knew better to pray and to consider where the Lord is leading me. That intimacy made me realize how much I miss my Lord. To be honest, it was very difficult to pray when you know you are living a sinful life. But I decided to choose GOD over my life of sin.

I chose to let go. I chose to let go and LOVE. Let go of perfection and my reputation. Let go of my sins. Let go of myself and I chose to obey GOD. By God’s grace, my husband and children also chose to obey GOD and let go of ourselves no matter how painful. By far, that was the best choice my family has ever made.

We are all unique in our family. Each of us has different dreams, aspirations, fears, and motives. Like a rope with many strands, each member is a strand. When we all chose to obey GOD, the strands become intertwined making it stronger. To me, it symbolizes GOD’s love and power covering protecting us from pain, shame, and condemnation.

We can also liken our spiritual families to the rope. God has given each of us a special spiritual gift for a purpose. We are to use that gift to encourage one another, edify the church, and bring glory to God. We are sisters in Christ and one Spirit dwells in all us. Our connection with a sister or brother in Christ is the Spirit of God.

I cannot emphasize the importance of being part of an accountability group or a small group. This is where we share our struggles and victories. The group is a place where we get corrected or rebuked out of love. The members of the group are our immediate prayer warriors. Our ropes should intertwine and unite. We need strength to know God more and to make Him known.

At the end of my talk, the WOW ministry continued with their program called WOW’s Got Talent. The showcasing of the member’s talents were entertaining. It was also a way for me to meet the elders and other sisters in Christ.

AT Pierson said, “To a true child of God, the invisible bond that unites all believers to Christ is far more tender, and lasting, and precious; and, as we come to recognize and realize that we are all dwelling in one sphere of life in Him, we learn to look on every believer as our brother, in a sense that is infinitely higher than all human relationships. This is the one and only way to bring disciples permanently together. All other plans for promoting the unity of the Church have failed.”
